Darius Morris dead, Former Michigan guard, NBA player


Former Michigan Wolverines guard and NBA player Darius Morris passed away at the age of 33, as confirmed by NBA insider Shams Charania.

Morris enjoyed a four-season tenure in the NBA, suiting up for the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Brooklyn Nets from 2011 to 2015. Following his NBA career, he continued to play basketball internationally until his retirement in 2020.

Darius Aaron Morris (January 3, 1991 – May 4, 2024) was an American professional basketball player, most recently representing BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque of the French LNB Pro A league. He began his professional journey as the 41st pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, primarily playing as a point guard. Throughout his career, he also saw action with the Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA, as well as the Los Angeles D-Fenders and Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA D-League. Notably, he established a D-League playoff single-game assists record in 2014 while playing for the Vipers.

During his collegiate years, Morris contributed for two seasons with the Michigan Wolverines. His standout performances included leading the Big Ten in assists during the 2010–11 season and setting the Michigan single-season assist record (a mark later surpassed by Trey Burke). He earned third-team All-Big Ten honors during his sophomore campaign.
