Janet Reid, Literary Agent dead, educated me about querying

Sad news – my beloved agent @Janet_Reid has departed for the great library in the sky. Long before we worked together, her blog & @QueryShark educated me about querying, publishing & writing. She was a generous advice giver who truly listened to writers at all stages.

If you’re considering querying the agent you previously interned for, honesty is the best policy. Transparency about your past interaction with her shows integrity and respect for her time. In your query letter, briefly mention that you interned for her in the past and express regret for the miscommunication that led to the accidental ghosting. Emphasize your growth since then and your eagerness to present your novel for her consideration. Acknowledging the past shows maturity and professionalism, and it’s possible she may not even remember the incident or hold it against you. Regardless, focus on the quality of your novel and your passion for your craft, as that’s ultimately what will capture her interest.
